Why We All Need Hygge
I first discovered Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) through a joke. There was a satirical petition for Denmark to annex California. The logic? They wanted to bring Danish coziness Hygge to Hollywood.
As someone living in the high-stress world of "hustle culture"—where we are constantly juggling gigs and side-quests—it hit home. It’s not just Hollywood that needs Hygge; it’s all of us.
What is Hygge?
Hygge is the Danish art of creating warmth and presence. It’s about choosing the mindful over the productive. It’s the feeling of:
Reading by a fireplace while it rains outside.
Drinking a warm beverage and journaling.
A long night of board games with people who make you feel seen.
The Alchemy of Connection
I recently hosted a Galentine’s Day at my place. We made pancake art with colored batter and played Red Flags (a dating game that inevitably ends in fits of laughter).
By the end of the night, something cool happened. Friends from completely different circles were exchanging numbers and making plans. There is a certain beautiful alchemy that happens when you create a space safe enough for people to just be.
That’s the heart of Homie Haven. It isn’t just a place; it’s the permission to slow down and let that alchemy happen. We exist to make it possible to connect.
DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS
Bad Bunny recently touched on this sentiment during his rise to the top of the charts. While his album title DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS literally translates to “I should have taken more photos,” the heart of the message is deeper: I should have slowed down to enjoy the moments with loved ones more.
Be intentional about community and cultivating hygge. Create your own haven, invite your homies, and put the hustle on hold for a while. If there is no Homie Haven building server for your building, contact us and we can create one for you.
